Beijing, China---On December 9, 2025, Anna S?derholm, Executive Vice President of the Swedish Environmental Research Institute (IVL), paid a visit to the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES) for exchanges on deepening bilateral scientific and technological cooperation. The delegation was received by Xi Beidou, President of CRAES, and the meeting was chaired by Quan Zhanjun, Vice President of CRAES.

Mr. Xi welcomed the delegation and briefed the IVL delegation on CRAES’s recent research progress. He noted that CRAES places high priority on its partnership with IVL, highlighting the two institutes’ long-standing and fruitful cooperation in areas such as atmospheric research, motor vehicles and sustainable development. He expressed the hope that both sides would build on the 2023 Memorandum of Understanding to deepen practical cooperation and contribute solutions to global environmental challenges.
Ms. S?derholm spoke highly of China’s achievements in ecological civilization and sustainable development, and commended CRAES for its recent research accomplishments.She briefed the meeting on IVL’s recent progress in key areas, including climate adaptation and resilience, emerging pollutant management, digital development and the expansion of overseas operations. She also underscored the importance of the partnership and expressed IVL’s readiness to work with CRAES to deepen practical cooperation.
During the meeting, researchers from CRAES briefed the delegation on recent progress in pollution reduction and carbon mitigation.Quan Zhanjun and Ms. S?derholm discussed priority areas for future cooperation, including climate change response, carbon footprint and emission factor alignment, environmental product declarations and life-cycle assessment, and international standards connectivity. They also reached a preliminary consensus on inviting the President of IVL to visit CRAES in 2026.
